#StudentTakeover

With campus closed, and dormitories empty, we still had 100% attendance for our FOCUS bible studies. Like many other things, discipleship, bible studies, and the student board all went online for the second half of the spring semester. (Below: Father Luke holds a student board meeting from his office.)

Putting Mass Online

Masses have been livestreamed from our chapel since March 19th.

At the beginning of the lockdown, we at the St. Thomas Aquinas Newman Center built a live-streaming studio inside our chapel so that we could bring a beautiful and prayerful Mass to our students and parishioners stuck at home.

Now, we need your help to raise money for our video production. Make a donation today to support our sharing of the sacramental life of the Church with those who need it most.

We have been so heartened by the kind words people have sent our way in response to our livestreamed Masses and Morning Prayer.

“Thank you for making this so accessible and easy to watch! Bless you and the team for doing such a professional job!”

Christine Naylor

“Amazing job with the streaming!”

- Mike Peterson

“We really appreciate the streaming quality of UND Catholic’s Mass!”

- Katie Hlucney

When we first started livestreaming back in March, we didn't know how much work would be involved in creating a quality production. But soon three cameras were running in the chapel, and over 1,000 feet of cable was running through the halls. Father gave his homilies to small circles of shiny glass. Our musicians sang and played over empty pews. Our marketing guy moved cameras and edited video live from his desk.

Thank you for giving to support this unexpected need of our community.

The Gratia Banquet: Thank You & Farewell

(Above) Madeline Carson says "Farewell" to the students of undCatholic as she ends her tenure as FOCUS team director.
On May 9th, we held our annual Gratia Banquet. It is normally a gathering of our students and staff to thank God for the year gone by and celebrate those graduating seniors who are leaving the Newman Center. This year was a little different. The cameras were moved out of the chapel. The blue screen (seen previously in during the Bike Race) was resized. And we built a 2-part stage in our lobby.

Father Luke emceed the night. Christina Krieger and Anna Reinholz spoke about how the Catholic Medical Association passed the year: reading Biomedicine and Beatitude by Fr. Nicanor Austriaco and holding weekly seminars on the Catholic vision for medicine. Traci Kulesa summarized the life of the Newman House. Madeline Carson said farewell as she finished her final year with FOCUS. And each graduating senior was honored and sent off by name.
